ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

  • TRAIL GUIDE/PROGRAM AIDE -- Lead nature tours and programs for schoolchildren.
    • Needed weekday mornings and Saturday for scouts, families and small groups.
  • FISHING AIDE -- Assist school children's groups learn fishing technique with catch and release fishing. Needed weekday mornings or Sunday.
    • Our ELC's most pressing need is for weekday volunteers to work with school kids.
PARK & RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES
  • TRAIL WORKER -- Assist with the overall development and maintenance of grounds and trails including priming, trail surfacing exotic vegetation control, tree planting, light construction etc.
  • GARDENER -- Help maintain the wildscape, composting bird/butterfly and xeriscape gardens and other planted areas.
ADMINISTRATIVE & RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
  • ADMINISTRATIVE -- Administrative work assisting office staff answering the phone, greeting visitors and handing out information.
  • COLLECTIONS/RESEARCH -- Assist with the collection and preparation of plant and animal specimens for learning programs and displays (flowers, leaves, skulls, tracks, etc.). Assist with research on plant and animal distribution, population numbers etc.
SPECIAL PROJECTS OPPORTUNITIES
  • As SLSP grows its mission will evolve. Your corporate volunteer group, scout or service organization is invited to help enhance the SLSP environmental learning and recreational experience.
    • Drop by for a visit and tour the park. Let us help your personal, corporate and organizational volunteer effort.
All park volunteers fill out a Disclosure of Criminal History and a TPWD volunteer application.
