Friends of Sheldon Lake SP (FOSL) began in January 2003 when five folks sat down with SLSP Superintendent Rob Comstock. They met in the midst of a Texas state legislative budget crisis. A proposed construction and even the future of Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center seemed in doubt.
The resources of the park were stretched meeting demand from Houston area schools for environmental learning. Volunteers were needed as never before. Money had to be raised to help subsidize students from the poorest schools.
What was NOT in doubt then or now is the need for environmental learning and a state park destinations for families. FOSL was formed to help SLSP staff and TPWD achieve their mission for the park.
FOSL is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization incorporated in the State of Texas. We are chartered by TPWD as the official Friends organization for SLSP. You contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Current by-laws let the board and officers run the business of FOSL. The board holds an annual meeting where board members elect board members and officers.
The board holds bi-monthly business meetings in the SLSP ELC. FOSL members and interested parties are welcome to join the board for its meeting. Members and staff must submit items for the agenda here. The board fully anticipates regular membership meetings in the near future.
